The Bible Edge

Everyone needs an Edge, Believers can have the Bible Edge

Proverbs 27:8

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

Stay put. Sometimes the secret to success in any given field of business is simply to stay put. In this simple verse of the Bible there are a few precious nuggets to consider.

First notice the word “wandereth.” This indicates that the bird is not going elsewhere on purpose. The bird is not leaving one nest for another. It is not hunting food to bring back to the nest. It is wandering. Many are like this. They leave the safety of a job or industry for another without a well thought out plan. Changing jobs is about as prevalent as breathing today, but how many really get ahead on the new venture, or even have a plan on what to do upon leaving the nest of secure employment? There are those job hoppers that go from place to place and never seem to get ahead because they are always at the entry level. If a person is to “leave the nest” the edge from God’s Word, the Bible Edge on the matter, is to have another nest to which to fly.

As a general thought consider also; “her nest,” “his place”. Probably in the world of Ornithology this may have some significance, but who knows. Perhaps God is trying to make this verse universal, working for both men and women.

From his place.” You have a place. Stay put until God moves you to another place. How will you know? Circumstance. God oftentimes moves through circumstances. At other times He moves through the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. But frankly, so many other voices loudly clamor for attention that few can distinguish the Holy Spirit’s leadership. Prayer, the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, preaching, and circumstance all play a part in moving a person from one nest to another. In fact, at the risk of risking contradiction, let it boldly be proclaimed that only through these five elements of life working together can a person be totally confident and safe in leaving one nest for another.

Unless God moves…determine to stay put. By doing so there is safety. Even Paul when addressing the members of a very worldly and carnal church (the church of Corinth) told them: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 If the Lord wanted these church members to stay in that church perhaps he wants you to stay at your job. That is, until He moves you from one nest to another.
