Minding Your Thoughts

A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life

Jeremiah 3:16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more

In 587 BC Jerusalem was destroyed and the ark of the Lord disappeared. From that time until now this prophecy has been, and is being, fulfilled. For the purpose of our devotion today consider the words …neither shall it come to mind  Have you ever thought, “I wish I had thought of that?”  Perhaps it was God in Heaven keeping your mind from thinking that which you wish you would have thought.

Many times, after a discussion with someone I think to myself “I wish I had said this” or “I wish I had said that.” Then one day it dawned on me, it may have been my Lord that kept “this” or “that” from coming to mind to protect, or to keep me from offending the person with whom I was speaking or otherwise misspeaking. I’ve come to the place where I realize this is a wonderful gift from my Lord. He can help control my speech by keeping thoughts from my mind. From this, regret over not saying things has diminished greatly.

If we devote our mind to God daily, He can and will assist us in every aspect of our thinking. Proverbs 16:3 proves this. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Many times, we pray for an answer and somehow God gives us a thought that answers that prayer. On the other hand, He can also do the opposite; he can keep things from coming to mind. So, next time you think, I wish I had said this or that, just remember, it may have been your Father in Heaven keeping that thought from entering your mind to protect you.

May the Lord Bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
