Minding Your Thoughts
A Biblical Overview of Obtaining and Maintaining a Biblical Thought Life
Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
The change from winter to spring is a wonderful time of year. The cold deadness of the winter is beginning to yield to warm days of spring, deer and duck hunting is behind and spring fishing is on the horizon. Outdoor sports are wonderful for so many different reasons. Being outdoors encourages health, it reinforces a positive outlook, it strengthens the body, it energizes the spirit, and it is just plain good to be outside. Years ago, I spent two years in the Chicago area. It seemed as though there was no sunshine from September to May, very depressing to those from the southern states.
Whether it is fishing, hunting, golfing, camping, boating, working or eating, I would rather be outside than inside any day. When the hunting or fishing season approaches an outdoorsman’s mind will be after it. The mind will be working, thinking of strategies to harvest game, tactics to be more productive, plans for various approaches to the favorite outdoor sport. Without the proper mindset, the sport seasons will be hindered from producing the desired results. Most, if not all, outdoorsmen have been on trips for which they were not mentally prepared. If they succeeded at all it was just luck or the undeserved blessing of Almighty God.
The same is true with things spiritual. One’s mind must be on it, after it, planning for it, thinking about it, contemplating on strategies for spiritual growth, tactics to grow spiritually, plans and approaches. This thing of having a mind after the Spirit is in no way second to any other pursuit, it must be undertaken on purpose. Pursue things spiritual in your mind and your flesh will follow. Guaranteed.
May the Lord Bless and be pleased with your thought life today.
